Course Overview

Monday, March 7, 2022*

1 - 4:30 PM EDT

*This is the second of four Intensive Course dates and can be purchased individually or as part of the Full Bundle. Session 1 is a recommended prerequisite for all other Intensive Course sessions. For more details see the Winter Series brochure or Full Bundle page below.

ASLA/LACES Note: Attendees seeking LACES CEUs must complete each Session's quiz by 2 weeks after the live session date. LACES CEUs are not available after this time.

Presenter: Larry Weaner

Wildflower meadows and native grasslands are in high demand, but effective protocols for successfully achieving them are in short supply. Here we will delve into the nitty gritty of meadow design: site analysis, species selection, seed mix formulation, live plant inclusion, planting and management. The inclusion of shrub thickets and drifts will also be covered, including the arrangement of clonal vs. clump forming species, and the use of shrublands as ecological and visual “connective tissue” between meadow and woods.

Attendees will receive login-protected access to an extensive course manual including plant lists, an ecology-based plant characteristics chart, equipment recommendations, wildlife habitat enhancement strategies, diagrams for planting and maintenance procedures, and more.

Applicable Regions: Eastern and Midwestern US (Florida excluded).

Note: This course will have some repeated information from previous intensive design short courses.
